Changes to the 2025 Edition of NFPA 72, presented by Scott Lang This presentation will cover key changes to the NFPA 72-2025 edition. Changes to the code will be shown in legislative text along with an in-depth description of the changes and an explanation of the technical substantiation for them. Presenter: Scott Lang Scott began his career as a design engineer at Pittway (System Sensor) after earning a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northern Illinois University. Throughout his career, he has contributed to smoke detector research and development, as well as a wide range of fire detection and notification projects. He holds 24 U.S. patents in the field. In addition to his technical background, Scott earned a Master of Business Administration and subsequently worked in product management for several years. He is actively involved in standards development, serving on multiple committees for NFPA, UL/ULC, and international organizations. Scott also participates in industry trade associations, including the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, The Monitoring Association (TMA), and the Automatic Fire Alarm Association. |
Sneak Peak of the Key Changes to the 2027 ICC and NFPA Model Codes, An informative 60 minute discussion that provides an overview of the new requirements in the International Code Council (ICC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) model codes for fuel-gas detection, in-building emergency responder communications (ERCES), carbon monoxide (CO) detection, detection for waste sorting/transfer operations, remote system access, smoke detection in sleeping lofts, audible notification in areas of occupied roofs, mass notification risk analysis requirerment for other than Group E having a lockdown plan, and lithium ion battery energy storage systems (ESS). Presentation Agenda: Presenter: Richard Roberts Mr. Roberts has over 35 years in the fire alarm and life safety markets that spans the installation, sales, and the development of products/systems. He is a member of thirteen NFPA Technical Committees, several ICC Fire Code Action Committee (FCAC) Working Groups, and the Model Codes Committee of the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM). Mr. Roberts serves on the Board of Directors for the Fire and Life Safety Section (FLSS) of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), Center for Campus Fire Safety (CCFS), and is the Chair of the Safer Buildings Coaltion (SBC) Codes & Standards Committee as well as a member. |
