ELEVATOR AND FIRE ALARM SYSTEM INTERFACE
For years, fire alarm systems have been interfaced with elevators to provide control of the elevator in emergency situations. This interface, however, has often been the subject of much debate with shifting and conflicting code requirements through the years. This presentation will discuss the types of elevators and how this effects required emergency interfaces. The applicable code requirements will be discussed in order to determine what fire alarm emergency interfaces should be provided by an owner and designer, as well as the authority having jurisdiction who must approve these important requirements. This presentation will present the latest code requirements including NFPA 72 © 2022 and 2025 Edition and the 2024 edition of IBC/IFC.

This presentation will feature the following learning objectives: What types of elevators are there and how does this effect emergency interface requirements; What are the various Code requirements that determine elevator emergency interface requirements; What are the specific requirements for elevator and fire alarm system interface?

From cell phones to large storage facilities, we want to discuss the growth of Lithium Ion Battery fires, what’s coming in suppression technology, detection, key concerns and possible solutions.  What are the challenges in this environment from structure, storage,  codes, enforcement, fire safety and suppression products.  Do we have to reconfigure the existing fire alarm systems in facilities that store these batteries?  What causes these explosions?  What codes are in place to protect people, property?
